The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the extension of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) till December 2028 and its restructuring as JJM 2.0. The new system will focus not only on infrastructure creation but also on sustainable and citizen-centric drinking water service delivery in rural areas.
Sujalam Bharat
Under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0, a nationwide uniform digital infrastructure, “Sujal Bharat,” will be developed. Each village will be assigned a unique Sujal Village/Service Area ID, enabling digital mapping of the entire drinking water supply system, from source to tap.
Water offering
The central government has also decided to implement a “Jal Arpan” system to ensure the participation of gram panchayats and water supply committees in the launch and delivery of schemes. Before declaring a scheme complete and issuing a Har Ghar Jal certification, the gram panchayat will ensure that an operation and maintenance system is in place.
Water Festival
To strengthen community participation, annual “Water Festivals” will be organized, encouraging collective responsibility for the maintenance of drinking water systems and protection of water sources in villages.
प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी की अध्यक्षता में केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने जल जीवन मिशन (जेजेएम) की अवधि को दिसंबर, 2028 तक बढ़ाने और इसे पुनर्गठित कर जेजेएम 2.0 के रूप में लागू करने को मंजूरी दे दी है। नई व्यवस्था में सिर्फ बुनियादी ढांचे के निर्माण पर नहीं, बल्कि ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में टिकाऊ और नागरिक-कंेद्रित पेयजल सेवा वितरण पर विशेष जोर दिया जाएगा।
सुजलम भारत
जल जीवन मिशन 2.0 मिशन के तहत देश में एक समान राष्ट्रीय डिजिटल ढांचा ‘सुजलम भारत’ विकसित किया जाएगा। इसके अंतर्गत हर गांव को एक विशिष्ट सुजल गांव/सेवा क्षेत्र आईडी दी जाएगी, जिससे जल स्त्रोत से लेकर नल तक पूरी पेयजल आपूर्ति प्रणाली का डिजिटल मानचित्रण संभव होगा।
जल अर्पण
केंद्र सरकार ने योजनाओं के शुभारंभ और हस्तांतरण में ग्राम पंचायतों और जल आपूर्ति समितियों की भागीदारी सुनिश्चित करने के लिए ‘जल अर्पण’ व्यवस्था लागू करने का भी फैसला किया है। किसी योजना को पूर्ण घोषित करने और हर घर जल प्रमाणन जारी करने से पहले ग्राम पंचायत यह सुनिश्चित करेगी कि संचालन और रखरखाव की व्यवस्था स्थापित हो चुकी है।
जल उत्सव
सामुदायिक भागीदारी को मजबूत करने के लिए हर साल ‘जल उत्सव’ आयोजित किए जाएंगे। इसके माध्यम से गांवों में पेयजल प्रणालियों के रखरखाव और जल स्त्रोंतों की सुरक्षा के लिए सामूहिक जिम्मेदारी को प्रोत्साहित किया जाएगा।
