The Indian Navy’s engine-less traditional sailing vessel, INSV Kaundinya, departed from Porbandar on Monday for its maiden international voyage to Muscat, Oman.
The INSV Kaundinya is built using a nearly 1500-year-old stitched ship technique, where wooden planks are joined together using coconut fiber ropes instead of iron nails. The engine-less Kaundinya will sail entirely with the help of wind and sails. This technique is based on the ancient traditional methods of Indian seafarers. Kaundinya is approximately 19.6 meters long and 6.5 meters wide. It has a 17-member crew, including 4 officers and 13 sailors.
नौसेना का इंजन रहित पारंपरिक समुद्री जहाज आईएनएसवी कौण्डिन्य सोमवार को अपनी पहली अंतरराष्ट्रीय यात्रा पर पोरबंदर से ओमान के मस्कट के लिए रवाना हुआ।
यह जहाज लकड़ी के तख्तों को लोहे की कीलों से जोड़ने के बजाय नारियल के रेशों से सिलकर लगभग 1500 साल पुरानी स्टिच्ड शिप तकनीक से बनाया गया है। बिना इंजन वाला कौणिडन्य पूरी तरह हवा और पालों की सहायता से समुद्र में आगे बढ़ेगा। यह तकनीक भारतीय नाविकों की प्राचीन पारंपरिक विधियों पर आधारित है। कौण्डिन्य लगभग 19.6 मीटर लंबा और 6.5 मीटर चैड़ा है। इस पर 17 सदस्यीय दल सवार है, जिसमें 4 अधिकारी और 13 नौसेनिक शामिल हैं।
